WE’RE ON THE MOVE IN CONGLETON!

May 18, 2025

After 18 years in our current homely premises the time has come to move to new, bigger and ‘ stairs free’ premises in Congleton. The good news is we’re only moving two doors down, on the other side of Greggs. Its the old British Heart Foundation shop and we will have the entire ground floor. At present our shop is spread over three floors. We have a large cellar which we use for storage and staff canteen. The ground floor is reception and the first floor is the testing / wax room.

In the new shop at 21 Bridge St we will have two testing rooms and a separate wax room – all on one level.

The stairs have been great exercise but none of us are getting any younger and they are becoming a bit of a pain. Pain in the leg to be exact.

The staff won’t be changing ( although we may be recruiting a new audiologist). Kay who has been with us since day one ( we’ll have to start paying her soon) will be moving with us and Nikki who has just started and is part time and holiday cover will be coming too.

The photos attached show the state of the premises now but the shopfitters are starting soon and the transformation is going to be incredible.

With all the new cafes and restaurants the town centre really is on the up and up and the new shop will be fit to see us through hopefully another 18 years ( or more) serving the people of Congleton, Biddulph, Sandbach, Alsager and all surrounding areas with first class audiology services and products.

Remember we are still at Glossop and Poynton offering free home visits or appointments at our partner opticians, Fox Opticians in Poynton and Jacksons Opticians in Glossop.

By the time of the next blog we should have our new shop kitted out and we may even be trading from there. It’s exciting times ahead for the Congleton Hearing Centre.

I went to the hearing centre last week with very badly hardened wax in my left ear. I found them to be extremely helpful and I am grateful for the removal of the wax!

My GP recommended micro suction because of continuous ear infections. I knew of the Congleton branch through them treating my mother in law . I got an appointment within a week and had the procedure today . Quite a lot of "gunk" was sucked out painlessly, in fact it felt quite nice . Hopefully the infections will cease but I wont hesitate going back to the branch if needed or for possible hearing tests in the future . First class service

My 15 year old son was experiencing hearing loss and reoccurring pain in his right ear. I had taken him to the gp several times and was told to use olive oil as all she could view was a big lump of wax. We used olive oil for almost a year which didn't shift the wax and I was at the end of my tether stuck in a position when my son was suffering discomfort and the gp wouldn't do anything to help him. I contacted Congleton Hearing Centre for help and the receptionist kindly listened to my concerns about my son and spoke to the audiologist to see if he would give my son a consultation due to his age (Specsavers do hearing tests and syringing but only see those aged 18+) thankfully the audiologist at Congleton Hearing Centre agreed to see my son the next day 🙂 the receptionist had informed me over the phone that they charge £30 per ear for wax removal which I felt was very reasonable. The gentleman examined both my sons ears and said the left was OK for now and didn't need doing, the right however was completely blocked. He used a suction device which didn't shift the wax as it was well and truly stuck so reverted to using the water syringing technique - a large lump of almost black wax was removed and my sons symptoms had disappeared the following day. I was charged £30 which was money well spent (if Congleton Hearing Centre hadn't agreed to see my son I was going to pay to see an ENT Dr at Nuffield Health). I am so very grateful for all staff at the Hearing Centre - especially the receptionist for getting the after school appointment for my son so quickly and over lockdown. Highly recommend company to others 🙂

Brought my 3yr old for attempted wax removal. Advised beforehand that they would take a look but couldn't guarantee treatment possible. Audiologist was unable to perform the procedure after all but took a long time going over things with us, explained himself clearly & had a great manner. I'd recommend them.
